Subjects of the MBA study are divided into eight basic modules:

1. Thesis seminar

Posláním modulu je v rámci kurzu Diplomový seminář průběžnou prací a konzultacemi seznámit studenty s požadavky, metodami a zdroji, které jsou potřebné k vypracování seminárních prací, projektu MBA práce a následně ke zpracování MBA práce. 

MBA theses regularly také the form of case studies, the focus and processing form is different from other student activities. Emphasis is put on precisely this form of theses. However, this doesn’t exclude other forms of MBA thesis.

Attention is especially given to making contact with praxis (through praxis in a specific company, most often by shadowing a specific position), the correct assembly of a case study and an adequate written presentation of the study.

The emphasis is put on the clarification of the principles of creating a technical text and the principles of formal editing.

The subjects output is an authorized and developed MBA thesis project with all the listed necessities (target, problem, a worked chapter content, specification of book sources, the work organization advances, time advances). The formal project structure (a base for the assignment of the final thesis) is outlined in a school directive.

The course „Methods of applied statistics“ aims at working with economic data and at understanding the results of individual statistical analyses and procedures, which are used by companies and the state. One of the course targets is to acquire necessary knowlege of statistical methods needed for the final MBA programme thesis.

The model shows the interrelation of economy and sports, it presents certain economic aspects of the connection between physical education, sport and movement recreation from the view of institutional, microeconomic, macroeconomic, and from the point of view of civic economy, public finances. It contains even certain regional and communal economic viewpoints influencing investment activities, employment and economic growth.

Model is oriented towards brief development, main trends and the current state of the world economics development. Students will get acquinted with the main players of the world economics systém (countries, international organizations, international corporations, regional integration) and their interrelations. Based on the understanding of the processes of economic integration, it creates conditions for understanding the options and limits of a more effective participation of the Czech Republic into the global economy.

From the point of view of the sports sector, its position in the economy and thus a significant share of sports policy in the regulation of the sector in terms of its optimization with the aim of significant benefits for society is important.

The module provides information on the European Union, the historical development of European integration, the EU institutions focused on economy and their activities. It also gives students an insight into the decision-making process that the EU institutions follow when drafting legislation. It follows the issue of monetary integration, the Euro and the euro area, the EU’s internal economic policy. It emphasizes its policies in the field of sport. It also looks at the changes in the EU’s position in the world economy. It also presents current EU issues.

The module reflects the newest knowledge from the field from both domestic and world literature. It provides accurate information about the specifics of application the theory of management in the field of sports. It deals with issues of structure and management of sports organizations in the public sector, non-profit sector and in professional sports from the perspective of the application of basic managerial functions. The student has the opportunity to get acquainted with the application of the principles of strategic planning, organization, leadership and management of human resources and control as well as with the issue of measuring the performance of sports organizations – with the principles of good governance.

Business model as a model presentation of logical interrelations, where the organization or a company create added value for a customer and at the same time provide the organization with profit. Definitions of business models vary; important is the fact that we delimit the business model and strategy of the company, the organization. An important part is the clarification of the need for business models in practice and their typology.

Sport club is in many regards similar to a company in the traditional approach. One of its characteristics is orientation towards profit and it’s maximization.  Sport is a steeply developing sector of today and tomorrow. Sport companies produce and introduce to the market products and services for consumtion, usage, they supply the sporting with high-value sport equipment, professional trade and counselling performances, attractive movement offers and emotional life experiences.

The task of the manager of a company operating in the sports sector is, among other things, to manage business activities and market sports products. The economics of sport bring, in its specific form, an interdisciplinary view into the economics of physical culture as well; The economics of sport uses its own means of expression to systematically examine the effects of physical culture on humans and the economic environment.

An integral part of the course is also the issue of ethical behaviour, leadership, motivation in the company and the specifics of the sports environment as one of the supporting functions of the company: human resource management and leadership.

 

5. Management of sport facilities and their operation

The module provides knowledge about the organization and management of sports organizations based on various forms of institutionalization of organizations and companies – non-profit organizations, business companies.

It deals with the principles of establishment, functioning and termination of sports organizations, their organizational structures and financial management. It also presents knowledge from the field of economics and management of sports facilities and discusses the operators and investors of sports infrastructure, urban standards and their comparison with abroad.

Provides knowledge of the importance and position of the main organizers of sporting events: International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Football Federation (FIFA), International Hockey Federation (IIHF), game organizing committees, municipalities, state and regions, sponsors, investors and financial flows, marketing agencies, spectators.

Short annotation: 

The module acquaints students with aspects of the work of a marketing worker in a sports organization: the demands of the job function on creativity in finding funding to ensure sports activities or the operation of sports facilities. Practical experience training. Additional knowledge of specific areas in sport: manufacturers and sellers of sport equipment, sport competitions, professional sport clubs, as well as non-profit organizations in sport.

The dynamism of the sport sector in space and time requires the most efficient and fastest possible management of matters that intervene in this specific environment on a daily basis.

The module is also focused on the relationship between sport and law, on sport legislation in the Czech Republic, on European legislation in the field of sport; in particular, however, on the legislation on advertising and sponsorship in sport.

The module is conceptually oriented to subjects providing knowledge and practical applications of human resource management and teamwork, coaching; emphasizes the ethical aspects of leadership. It is also measured for motivational leadership and emotional intelligence. It emphasizes the specifics in the sport of individuals and teams.

Through tasks designed for self-study, it creates prerequisites for the enrichment of knowledge in relation to the applicability of managerial functions in the environment of sports organizations.

 

8. Event management and marketing

 Short annotation: 

The problematic of events within the sports industry is very closely connected with management and marketing (with emphasis on communication, distribution and marketing analysis). The area of event financing and the associated partnership and sponsorship also requires separate attention. An important part is the problematic of mega-events.

 

9. Final thesis

Short annotation:

The module consists in processing and defending the final thesis – Master Thesis; pre-requisite is the MBA thesis project, which is emphasized in the 1st module – Thesis seminar. During the study and within the completion of individual subjects and modules, the student will have the opportunity to process partial tasks of their final work and thus to consult and specify the entire work during the study.

Elaboration and successful defense of the final written work, which the student structures during the study, is a prerequisite for completing the MBA study program.

Thematically, the final theses will be focused mainly on solving specific problems in the field of work activities of the study program participant.
