Scientific focus
The problematics of humoral regultions of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome. The subject of his scientific work is the course of inflammatory reaction in clinical and experimental situations, the study of biochemical indicators of acute-phase reaction (acute-phase proteins, anti-inflammatory cytokines, procalcitonin), particularly in surgical patients, in cooperation with the First and the Second Surgical Clinic of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and the Clinic of Transplantational Surgery IKEM.

Executor and co-executor of 21 scientific projects supported by grants of the Internal Grant Agency of the Ministry of Health of the Czech republic and the Grant Agency of the Charles univeristy since the year 1992.
Author of 6 monographs, 184 publications, of that 86 works in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Career
1989-93 internal scientific research assistantship at the Third Internal Clinic, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University; topic Physiology and Pathophysiology of Methabolic Regulations.
1994 – candidate dissertation thesis „Acute-phase Proteins in Model Situations“ succesfully defended.
1993-2003 specialist assistent at the Institute of Pathological Physiology, First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and a clinician at the Third Internal Clinic at General University Hospital in Prague.
